Preserving the city’s history
“Eden” was built in 1938, planned by the architect and military commander Yohanan Ratner who also served as Head of the National Headquarters of the Haganah and the Palmach.
Over the years the hotel played an important role in the history of the city of Jerusalem and of the entire State of Israel. Momentous meetings about the future of the young state took place in the building, and among its honorable guests were Chaim Weizmann, David Ben-Gurion, Orde Wingate, Nahum Goldmann, Golda Meir and many others. For many years it was difficult to find a room without advance reservations, among other things because of the hotel’s proximity to Beit Frumin, which served to expand its clientele.

The Eden Bauhaus, The unique design
The building is designed in the Bauhaus style which was very prominent in the pre-State period. Bauhaus architecture is characterized by “functional asymmetry” – part of the structure is 4 floors and part 3 floors. The windows are straight-lined and emphasize the design characteristics, the balconies are minimalist and “taken from” the building mass. In the façade the main entrance lobby is sunken, at the corner there are four high arches in Jerusalem local-Oriental color tones. A lovely garden is tucked away in the back of the building.
